It all started when…
Hey there! If you’re reading this, welcome! My guess is you are here for one of the following reasons: you enjoy stretching, you don’t enjoy stretching, or you are trying to stretch more often. All three are great reasons to be here! Before I explain my personal approach, let me start by telling you a little bit more about myself…
My name is Sarah and I am addicted to moving my body. I’ve been active for as long as I can remember. I started dancing at the age of 2, and haven’t stopped since. My love for dance propelled my love for singing, which led to my constant desire to be on stage doing both simultaneously. Fast forward to many years later when I made “the big move” to NYC to continue pursuing my passion as a career. As a self-declared endorphin addict, it didn’t take long for me to get hooked on the plethora of group fitness this city has to offer. Here I am, a few years later, doing pretty much everything I love all in one place: performing, teaching fitness, and taking classes.
There was however one missing puzzle piece: I never quite found a class and/or community that allowed me to work on my flexibility without committing to a specific practice. Stretching is often associated with specific practices that involve flexibility (ie yoga, dance, gymnastics). I was itching for an opportunity to just STRETCH my body without worrying about knowing the proper terminology for yoga poses or having to focus on my technique in a dance class. Anyone else feel this as much as I do??
Anyway, let’s be real; most of us don’t take the time to properly stretch and condition our bodies. Whether it be lack of motivation or fear of committing to a practice such as yoga, we’ve all been there. What if we scrapped that idea? What if we kept stretching simple, functional, and attainable for people from all walks of life? What if we honed a deeper connection between stretching and ALL forms of fitness? That’s how Stretch With Sarah started.
My mission is to create a safe space where you feel empowered to do something good for your body. Stretching is something that can be incorporated into your daily routine, and it doesn’t always have to be affiliated with another practice. Stretching is for everyone! It’s important for so many reasons beyond increasing flexibility and strength: it increases muscle strength & joint mobility, prevents injury, reduces stress levels, promotes circulation….I could go on and on. I’ll leave you with this: I am here for YOU and I hope to see you in a stretch session soon!
